Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound
An abdominal aortic ultrasound is a test that evaluates the abdominal aorta, the large blood vessel that carries blood through the abdomen. It is used to detect abdominal aortic aneurysms, which can occur when the artery becomes enlarged or dilates. Learn more about abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Using ultrasound equipment, a technician will take images of the abdominal artery. An aneurysm is diagnosed if the artery is enlarged more than one and a half times its normal size.
